I made the mistake of being honest about motherhood in front of a 22-year-old without children. "I'm petrified to be a parent," she responded. "Don't be," I said. "This is only my experience, yours will be a lot different." Very politically correct of me to say, but what I was really thinking: "If that scares you, just wait." read more

What Being a Father Means: A Dad's Perspective
By Courtney A. Buxton
A Work in Progress
A...s hard as new motherhood is for mothers, what about the dads? I was an overwhelmed mess during the first few months of our oldest son’s life. Yes, he was colicky. Yes, I quit working. Yes, we moved hundreds of miles. But what about my husband? He was dealing with me, a crying baby, and he started a new job on almost zero sleep. What was that like? And what, if anything, would he do differently now?
In honor of Father’s Day, I decided to ask him. Here is what he has to say about young fatherhood and faith:
What was the hardest part of the first six months of fatherhood?

But many of us overlook planning for our children's safety in new locations. Hotels have pools, attractions often have water rides and beaches have rip tides.
Drowning is the second leading cause of death in children aged 1-14 years old, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and most of these deaths can be prevented. Consider this, a swimming pool is 14 times more likely than a motor vehicle to be involved in the death of a child age 4 and under as reported on the Orange County California Fire Authority website. Yet many parents arrive to the pool or beach without the proper s

After having a baby, most moms feel the urge to get that baby weight off… FAST!!! Despite your enthusiasm, please be patient. Doctors recommend waiting ...eight weeks before exercising after a c-section and six weeks after vaginal birth.
After giving your body time to heal, focus on the core muscles, including back and stomach muscles. They help control movement of all our extremities, so even when picking up children or their toys, the core muscles are used.

With the holidays fast approaching, many of us are thinking about having our family portraits taken for gift giving. But if professional portraits don’t... fit into your budget, here is a suggestion for getting great pictures without breaking the bank:
Get together with friends. This is a dual-purposed activity. You get higher quality pictures and a fun time with friends, for the low price of FREE! Find another family that’s willing to trade off photographer and posing duties. Choose either one of your houses or a meeting place in the area, and take turns taking photos for each other. This way, you avoid the hassle of the ten-second-timer and your friends are likely to elicit some genuine smiles. Either you can each bring your own cameras, or you can share (preferable if only one family has a professional quality camera).
